Course Description: In this course you will learn a language that inspires 100% Self Responsibility, Authenticity & Genuine Connection!…as you absorb the basic 4-step process & philosophy of NVC-Nonviolent Communication (also referred to as Compassionate or Empathic Communication)....(& beyond!)
Its purpose is to inspire compassion from others & to respond compassionately to others & thereby enhance the possibility for true connection on a human level. NVC guides us to reframe how we EXPRESS ourselves & how we HEAR others without shaming or blaming, judging or criticizing. We communicate instead by focusing on what we are observing, feeling, needing and requesting. (* I use a holistic teaching style to include NLP/Brain Gym/Bowen Theory etc to help intergrate the material.)
Course Goal and Objectives: Each student will have a working in depth understanding of the NVC process & learn to use language in a responsible way that maximizes the possibility of real connection! Learning to use words in a CONSCIOUS & RESPONSIBLE way i.e. compassionate to ourselves and others will generate a more peaceful & harmonious experience of our inner & outer worlds!! _______________________________________________________________________ COURSE SYLLABUS Class 1: Basics Intro: the 4-step process & philosophy! Class 2: POWERFUL DISTINCTIONS! : Learn to distinguish between a need, a want, a preference, a strategy, a reaction vs. a response, power with vs. power over…etc! Class 3: The Power of "NO ": saying Yes when you mean Yes & No when you mean No!! Class 4: ANGER!…learning it nonviolently! Class 5: Self Empathy/Self Forgiveness & “Loving you w/o Losing Me in the Process!”

Instructor Bio: Tera Gardner has a San Diego Community College teaching credential in Effective Communications & Personal Development and taught with the SDCC district for 21+yrs . She now has a private practice as a Certified Life Coach specializing in relationship communications and relationship “addiction”. Practicing NVC for over 17 years and a SD area NVC coordinating team member 14+ yrs, she facilitates bi-monthly practice support groups in her home and NVC workshops/classes throughout the community..
