WORDS FROM THE MAORI:
Mirimiri:
the healing process that works on all 4 dimensions. It connects
the Tohunga to the 12th heaven (realm) where in Maori mythology,
Taane climbed his way up to this 12th plane to uplift the 3 kete
(baskets) of sacred knowledge.
Koo Miri:
is the process of koorerorero (talking) is used to find the 'core'
emotional bindings that dis-able, dis-empower and keep dis-cord
rife. These are mainly emotional experiences behind physical,
psychological or mental ailments. Through the use of the Whatumanawa,
(the third eye) one is able to identify issues and bring about
change as well as healing.
Taa Miri:
is to read and listen to the body. This is mainly where we see
the trauma trapped within the body.
For example: Calves - primary relationships and heavy metals
trapped in body and they sink Hip bones - imbalance of energy,
male / female energy askew Upper arms - pain in this area lack
of self nurturing
Romiromi:
Use of elbows, hands, knees, feet, raakau (stick / wood), kohatu
/toka (stones), moana (seawater), to do a very
deep tissue body work. These are as Papa says the stages of what
he teaches, Te Oomai Reia.
All of the above in turn bring about TE REO - the voices of nature.
Some of the techniques that we use are as old as the ancient
Chinese Accupressure and Accupuncture points.
They are related to the Hawaiian Lomilomi and Ha'aaponopono, extending
back 12,000 years or more.
Similarities exist as we travel the world with our healing and
see it in action in other indigenous cultures.
Romiromi and mirimiri are not an experience of pampering or relaxation.
It is deep tissue and energy, bodywork and has the following benefits:
- stimulates the blood and circulation
- regulates the nervous system
- speeds recovery of scar tissue or loosening tight scar tissue
- improves physical, mental, emotional, spiritual performance
- can relieve chronic pain
- maintains wellness
- is a preventative measure for self healthcare
- mind body spirit

Concepts to understand:
Ki – Energy / Ri – Energize / Romi – Agitate
/ Ha – Breath / Haka – cathartic use of (self) energy
to stimulate and heighten the self.
For people, the digestive tract, extracts the energy from the
food. The lungs get it from the air. When these 2 unite in the
toto / bloodstream they form a mauri (life force) or energy, that
circulates within and without the body.
“Tahia te ara kia kitea ai te huarahi
ahu
atu te mata ki te ao marama kei kona
nga uri whakatupu e tatari an ki a koe”
“Clear away the obstacles so that the
pathway forward may be seen~
Turn your face to the world of light
for the generations yet unborn
are waiting for you...”
How does one explain a life changing occurrance? We’re not
sure. What we do know is that the techniques
we work with are as old as the ancient Chinese acupuncture &
acupressure points. The heamata (or points) that we work on are
usually where a person is blocked. We pick this up by using our
internal radar so to
speak or the person shares with us where he or she is feeling
pain or blocked.
In a great number of cases the healing is instantaneous yet the
body, because of its density and need to understand or be in control
of what just happened has a time lag. That means that it takes
time to readjust
to the way it used to be, (to its original blueprint of health).
In some cases it may take 20 minutes, an hour, day’s or
even weeks to experience a change. When we ‘read’
a persons body we know almost instantly
what is required, where to go, what pressure to use. Most times
a heavy pressure is used to ensure that the blockage is opened
and that the energy will continue to flow. A Maori Healing session
is very deep,
physically as well as
emotionally for most people. A lot of people experience some form
of pain while being worked on and sometimes ask the healer to
stop. Know that it is the mind, full of fear of the unknown that
will try at times
to override the body’s need to be released. Usually the
most intense part of the session does not last for more than a
few short moments and the intensity one experiences is a good
parameter for the amount of pain one has held in and lived with
on a daily basis. Healing is not a quiet occurrence for the Maori,
and one is encouraged to “let it all out”, through
crying, screaming, cursing or laughing, which ever feels most
natural
to you to do. During the sessions you will experience a lot of
Maori humor, laughter and singing as well as prayer if called
for. What we do as well is work on the other bodies too, not just
the physical, as many
people concentrate on now. There is a difference in hands-on healing
and energy because of the physical
and non-physical touch. We use different amounts of energy to
move the emotional traumas and blockages that are ready to be
released. Since everybody is unique and different no session is
ever the same for anyone.
Know that each individual will receive what he or she is in need
of and ready to release. We see ourselves,
as Maori Healers, no more than the instruments of change.
How to prepare for a session?
Please allow yourself to arrive 10 minutes or so prior to your
session (and
bring 2 large towels or a single bed sheet if you have been asked
this beforehand). We advice you to
wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing.
You will be given a client intake form to fill out to let us know
what you
would like to be seen for. There will be time prior, during and
after your
session for you speak with the healer that works on you to ask
questions
about your treatment or share any specific concerns you may have.
Or they may ask for your details
so they can maintain a link with you.
The experience can be very emotional for some people and you might
not want
to get back to work right away. We advice you to take it easy
afterwards.
Appointments are scheduled hourly but it might take more or less
time for
each individual depending on what it is going on with you at the
time of
your session.
If you would like to bring someone with you for support please
do so.
Aftercare Instructions
The work is deep; the mind will offer either resistance or excuses.
We trigger long held pains, strains,
torn muscles/tendons, broken bones, broken hearts and emotions.
Once the blockages are removed, feelings and emotions have no
more place to hide and will come up to the surface. Allow the
self to feel these feelings. Know that you are fine; the body
is changing and growing in his/her capacity to be more in touch
with one’s own self. You will know after your session where
more care with the self is needed and where one needs to make
changes. Dealing and letting go of fear is an area that is very
difficult for most people. Initially you
might feel very good after a session however it is not uncommon
to feel soreness in parts of the body or emotional ‘highs
and lows’ for a few days afterwards because the body is
still processing what happened.
This is to be expected and okay.
After a session your body will need some tender
loving care. Take a hot shower or long hot soak with
some bath salts to ease the muscle tension. Spend some time in
nature! If needed seek counseling for better understanding and
insight about how your situation became what it is, due to the
circumstances that occurred in your life. Being in a state of
‘dis-ease’ with oneself, most often causes disease.
Set free those things that inhibit your gaining a better alignment
in every area of your life and wellbeing. Forgive one self and
others,
if needed. If you are undergoing treatment, medically and/or therapeutically,
don’t discontinue seeing your healthcare provider unless
he or she says it is fine to do so. Pray to the God of your own
knowing for
guidance and spiritual support.
Drink lots of water, to help flush out the toxins.
Allow for plenty of rest.
And last but not least, don’t forget to love yourself!
